Jazz for a Good Cause....

January 30th, 2009 by Alan Melson
Saxophonist Tom Braxton will be performing in Carrollton tomorrow night with the North Texas-based Crosswinds Jazz Band as part of a benefit concert to increase awareness about ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Nancy Bass, wife of Crosswinds bandleader Brian Bass, was diagnosed with ALS four years ago, and proceeds from the $15 admission will help offset the costs of her ongoing medical care.
Braxton, a Lubbock native who attended Texas Tech, has released several albums to national success, played with jazz greats including George Duke and Dave Koz and has been featured on CBS’ Early Show and BET’s Jazz Central. The 20-piece Crosswinds ensemble was formed in 2000.

The concert will be held at First United Methodist Church of Carrollton, 2201 East Hebron Parkway. Opening jazz-standards act The Brehms will begin at 6:30 p.m. For more details, visit crosswindsjazz.com.
