On November 11th, 2008 Charlie Parker - Bird in Time 1940-1947, was released on ESP-Disk'. The four disc set features interviews with Parker and some of his contemporaries, as well as early recordings that catch the jazz icon amid the transitional period between swing and bebop.
Jazz historian Michael Anderson produced the collection and wrote the liner notes, which contain a detailed history of the development of bebop within two thick booklets.
The grainy recordings on Bird in Time may not appeal to the casual listener, but will certainly excite aficionados and jazz history buffs.
