Hildegunn was born in Norway. In 2001, she moved to the States to pursue an bachelor and Masters Degree in Jazz vocal at University of North Texas renowned jazz studies program. Hildegunn was named Best Jazz Vocalist 2005 by Downbeat magazine. She is featured vocalist with the award-winning UNT One O'Clock lab band and with them performed with legendary bassist Rufus Reid in the Spring of 2007. Hildegunn has also with wonderful pianist Stefan Karlsson, guitarist Fred Hamilton and bassist Lynn Seaton while at UNT. Hildegunns voice and writing can be heard on the albums "Impression", "Travellin' the Route" and "In Case You Missed It" by the UNT Jazz Singers. In 2005 she won the G9alt scholarship of the Arts from the SpareBank 1 of Norway. She was also a finalist at the Montreux Vocal Vocal Jazz Competition in 2006, judged by Al Jarreau. The Hildegunn Gjedrem group, the group playing her original music, performed at the 2008 IAJE Festival, the worlds largest jazz conference in Toronto, Canada Their first album of her original compositions and arrangements was released in the fall of 2007.
